Southwest Greens gives golf courses, academies, driving ranges and indoor venues a way to add practice greens, tee lines and short-game areas that skip the watering, mowing and fertilizing that natural grass needs. It designs and installs synthetic putting greens through more than 50 franchise locations worldwide, and its own site says it has completed over 40,000 projects since it was set up in 2003. Its turf comes from its parent, Shaw Industries, which the company describes as a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary with vertically integrated manufacturing.

Greens built to Nicklaus Design principles

You can choose from over 20 Nicklaus Design green layouts or commission a custom one, and see a digital model before work starts. The partnership with Nicklaus Design dates from 2004, and its designers work in CAD from a library of greens between 500 and 5,000 sq ft. The premium surface from that partnership is Golden Bear Turf, which the company says has the look, feel and bite of natural grass. Beyond the green itself, it builds fringes, roughs, tee boxes, chipping areas and sand bunkers, so your players can practice flop shots, bump and runs and sidehill lies on one site.

Turf for tee lines, ranges and indoor rooms

For a range or academy, you can buy tee line turf and hitting stations as well as greens:

• NY Tee and PremiumTee for commercial tee lines
• 5×5 mats with a 5/8 in cushion and 100% nylon turf
• Golden Bear NY Putt 2 5mm and NYPUTT 2, non-infill nylon putting surfaces for indoor use
• A fringe turf with a 1.125 in pile height for approach shots
• White Bunker Turf, made for commercial courses and driving ranges

Its outdoor Pro System sits on an aggregate base with silica sand infill to set green firmness. The company says it offers warranties and keeps its installers involved from the first design meeting to installation. The driving range equipment checklist covers the other kit a new range needs.

Golf projects you can look at

Its Florida franchise installed eight synthetic target greens for the Top Tracer range at Addison Reserve Country Club in Delray Beach, with tee lines at both ends and an indoor teaching studio. It also lists tee lines and simulator rooms at Ballen Isles Country Club, a practice facility for Keiser University’s golf teams, and putting greens at Ocean Reef Club and PGA National. Overseas projects include the Hong Kong Golf & Tennis Academy, Golf Up in Grimaud and Paris International Golf Club, and it built a Major Series of Putting championship course in Las Vegas.

Southwest Greens is listed under golf course construction and design and with other golf suppliers in the United States. Other golf suppliers listed here include Huxley Golf, Bergin Golf Designs and Golf Range Netting.
