If you are planning a new golf course or rebuilding greens, bunkers or tees at an established club, CJW Golf can take on the shaping, construction and project management for you. CJW Golf International has its head office in Leatherhead, Surrey, and sister companies in Viseu, Portugal and Nassau, Bahamas, according to its website, with finished work in England, Scotland, Spain and Portugal.
Construction services you can hire
You can bring the company in for any of five lines of work: shaping, golf course construction, consultancy and management, turnkey construction packages and specialized team services. It says each job opens with a planning stage so that detailed shaping follows your architect’s design. It is listed among the golf course construction and design firms and the construction and renovation contractors for the United Kingdom.
Greens, bunkers and tees rebuilt at established clubs
For Aloha Golf Club in Malaga, Spain, CJW rebuilt all 20 greens in summer 2023 alongside Lobb + Partners and Surtec Golf Agronomy, planning to sod every green in about 14 weeks with 14 staff and four 13-tonne excavators fitted with rotating tilt attachments. At Monifieth Golf Links in Angus, Scotland, it reshaped 27 revetted bunkers into geometric forms and added small landforms to reward a ground game. Walton Heath in Surrey appointed it as contractor in early 2022 for tee, driving range tee and green surround work, and the company says it prepared courses for the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. Its portfolio also names Gullane, Machrihanish Dunes, The Castle Course, Berkhamsted, Camberley Heath, New Zealand Golf Club, The Buckinghamshire, Effingham, Elie, Beaverbrook, Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro and Royal Ascot.
New courses built from design to completion
At Terras da Comporta, an hour south of Lisbon, CJW built the Dunas Course with architect David McLay-Kidd, a par-71 links layout of 6,555 meters on 84 hectares that it calls its first 18-hole build from design to completion. On the nearby Torre course, the first course designed by Sergio Garcia, work started in winter 2022 with earthworks and rough shaping of 18 holes, a driving range and a short game area. Greens were built to USGA specification from native sand mixed with peat over a gravel carpet. In summer 2024 the course was sprigged with Tahoma 31 bermudagrass and the greens seeded with Pure Select bentgrass, followed by a grow-in period before handover. Its current project is the golf course at the Ritz-Carlton resort at Cotton Bay on Eleuthera, where works began in November 2025 with completion planned for early 2027.
How a build runs
Its case studies split builds into clearance, earthworks, rough shaping, irrigation installation, bunkering, grassing and seeding, and grow-in.
