Bergin Golf Designs gives your club one golf course architect to carry an original layout or a renovation from the first master plan through to the end of construction, with a costed budget at every stage. The Roswell, Georgia firm was established in 1994, and it says it has completed more than 100 projects in 30 years for private clubs, universities and public access courses across the United States. Principal Bill Bergin, ASGCA, played on the PGA, European and Asian tours and taught as a PGA professional before starting design work under Bob Cupp in 1990.

Plans and budgets you can price and bid

You start with a master plan that sets the course strategy, the scope of work and a timeline, together with a design cost analysis that itemizes quantities and costs, plus hole-by-hole renderings. The second phase gives you contour, cut and fill, drainage, irrigation and grassing plans with construction details, technical specifications and a bid for contract, so you can choose a qualified contractor for your golf course construction project. Plan quantities tie into an eight-page budget that breaks costs down by category and by individual hole, which lets you see what has been done to date.

Someone on site acting for the owner

During construction the firm acts as your representative in managing the contractor. Its staff visit weekly, record progress in formal site visit notes with instructions for field adjustments, and update the budget with each monthly payment application so you can see where the project stands against cost. Agronomic associate Spencer Oliver spent more than 20 years as a golf course superintendent and has helped with construction and grow-in on over 25 of the firm’s projects. Design associate Matt Bergin, ASGCA, flies the drones that produce topographic base maps and project photography.

Courses Bergin Golf Designs has built and renovated

Recent work includes the Richland Country Club renovation in Nashville, Tennessee, completed in 2023 at 7,015 yards, and The Keep at McLemore in Rising Fawn, Georgia, a new mountaintop course that opened in 2024. Other original designs it lists are 36 holes at Tennessee Grasslands, the Country Club of Winter Haven, The Links at Audubon and Pines Crossing Golf Club. Its renovation list includes Chattanooga Golf & Country Club, Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club, Druid Hills Golf Club and the practice area at The Honors Course, and current clients include Marietta Country Club, Country Club of Louisiana and Auburn University Club. The company says its renovations have received top honors from Golf Digest and Golf Inc.
