OJ Compagnie

If you run a golf course, municipality, sod farm or lawn care firm, you can buy turf equipment, grass seed, fertilizers, pesticides, soil amendments and de-icers from one supplier and use its own parts and mechanical service department for your machines. OJ Compagnie is a division of Otto Jangl Company Ltd, based in Sherrington, Quebec, in Canada, with sales representatives covering Quebec and Eastern Ontario.

Machinery you can buy new or used, with parts and service

For golf course equipment, you can choose from close to 30 manufacturers on the new machinery page, among them Jacobsen, Cushman, Smithco, Hustler Turf, Redexim, Ryan, Turfco, Greensgroomer, Progressive Turf Equipment, Steiner, Sweepster, Bernhard, Lely and AerWay. A separate section offers used equipment. If you have long grass on steep slopes, the Agria remote-controlled tracked mower cuts it, and the company calls itself the national distributor of Agria.

You can order parts online through the Web Express form or look them up in an R&R Products catalog. The company says its specialized mechanics have maintained customers’ machines for several decades. An accessories section and a named accessories specialist handle maintenance tools and supplies.

If you are weighing new against used mowers, read how to buy golf course machinery, new, used or leased. To compare, other turf equipment suppliers listed here include Redexim UK, Reesink Turfcare and SISIS.

Fertilizer, seed and turf protection for your course

OJ Compagnie says it is the largest distributor of Nutrite fertilizer in Quebec. In its fertilizer and seed range, you can pick granular blends by micro, mini and mid size prill, alongside premium, soluble, natural and foliar lines built on nitrogen sources such as Sustane, UMAXX, GreenTRX and Methydure. Its own foliar products carry the OJ Bio-Performance and OJ MAXX-Performance names.

For turf problems, the pesticide list includes Insignia, Instrata for snow mold, Kabuto for dollar spot and Subdue MAXX for Pythium, plus herbicides, white grub control, wetting agents, pond dyes and spray pattern indicators. Soil amendments include liming material, Profile Porous Ceramic Greens Grade, Turface Pro League and QuickDry for wet areas. You can download label and safety data sheets from the product pages.

A sales representative for your part of Quebec or Eastern Ontario

You deal with representatives split between chemicals and fertilizer and equipment, covering the Quebec City area, Trois-Rivieres and Gaspe, Montreal and the West Island, the North Shore, Laurentians and Lanaudiere, the South Shore and Eastern Townships, and Gatineau, Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Valley. One Quebec City area representative is an agronomist, and another handles municipalities and sod farms.

Who runs the company and how it started

Phil Jangl is president and Gabrielle Jangl is vice-president. According to its About page, founder Otto Jangl was an agronomist who left Czechoslovakia in 1950, settled in Sherrington and began selling seed. That small trade grew into a supplier of equipment and seed for golf clubs, municipalities and landscapers, and Jangl was named a lifetime member of the Quebec Order of Agronomists. The site’s slogan dates its turf work to 1967.
