If your pro shop fits, builds or regrips clubs, you get both the parts and the bench equipment from one club fitting, repair and components catalog. It comes from The GolfWorks in Newark, Ohio, about 30 miles east of Columbus, which Ralph Maltby founded in 1976 and which sells to club repair shops, golf professionals, manufacturers, custom clubmakers and do-it-yourself builders around the world.

Clubheads and component paks you can order

You can order clubheads under its own Maltby name, with online head prices from $27.99 for an M980 iron head to $199.99 for a KE4 TC MAX driver head. Current models include TS4, TS3, TS3.5 and TS1 IM forged irons, KE4 TC Pro and KE4 TC MAX adjustable drivers, KE4 TC IST fairway woods, TC Pro IST hybrids, DRT forged milled wedges, and PTP and Moment MAX milled putters. Paks bundle a head with the shaft and grip you choose, and the Custom Shop online builder covers custom drivers, fairways, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters.

You can compare heads by playability, because each one is rated with the Maltby Playability Factor and the rating appears beside it online and in the annual Clubmaker’s Catalog. The company says all its heads fall in the Ultra Game Improvement, Super Game Improvement or Game Improvement bands. Ralph Maltby built the scale from physics and a mathematical formula.

Shafts and grips to fit your builds

You can choose shafts from Mitsubishi Tensei and Diamana, Fujikura Ventus, KBS, UST LIN-Q, Graphite Design Tour AD, Project X Denali, Aldila, Rapport and Aerotech SteelFiber. Grips come from Golf Pride, Super Stroke, The Grip Master, True Temper, Odyssey and Ping, with Golf Pride Tour Velvet and MCC lines among them, which suits stores in the pro shop and golf retail supply trade.

Clubmaking tools and supplies for your workbench

You can equip your bench with clubmaking tools and workshop supplies from the same catalog. Tools are grouped into gripping, assembly, swingweight, shaft extracting, bending, fitting and measuring tools, plus tool kits and the Golf Mechanix range.

Buying in Canada

If you buy in Canada, The GolfWorks Canada, a separate operation, works from Ottawa, Ontario, where it also has a retail store and sends out catalogs during the year.

Clubmaking training and design work for brands

You can learn assembly and repair at The GolfWorks Clubmaking Academy, which runs 27 sessions a year and, according to its website, draws students from other countries. Ralph Maltby wrote “Golf Club Design, Fitting, Alteration and Repair”, which the company describes as the official PGA of America reference manual. Its Maltby Design division provides design and manufacturing for brands including PowerBilt and Tommy Armour.

It is one of the golf suppliers in the United States on this site. Other golf suppliers listed here include Summit Golf Brands, PING Europe and Srixon and Cleveland Golf (Dunlop Golf Europe).
