Husqvarna adds autonomous dew removal for golf greens to its Automower 580L EPOS

Husqvarna has announced a dew removal attachment for its Automower 580L EPOS robotic mower that clears dew from golf greens before the morning crew arrives, available from early 2027.

Robotic unit clearing dew from a golf putting green at sunrise

Husqvarna has announced an autonomous dew removal attachment for golf greens that fits its Automower 580L EPOS robotic mower. It swaps the mower’s cutting disc for a dew removal tool, so the same machine can clear dew from greens in the early morning before the crew arrives. Husqvarna says it will be available from early 2027. Turf Matters reported the launch on November 4, 2026, and Golf Business Monitor covered it on November 5.

How the attachment works

The attachment replaces the cutting disc on the Automower 580L EPOS, the robotic mower Husqvarna already sells for fairways and approaches. Courses set up dedicated work areas over each green and link them with transport paths, so one unit can drive itself from green to green during the job. While it’s traveling between greens, the attachment lifts clear of the ground, which Husqvarna says is to reduce the risk of carrying material from one surface to another.

Because the 580L EPOS uses Husqvarna’s satellite-based EPOS navigation, the work areas and paths are set up virtually rather than with a buried boundary wire. That matters on greens, where you don’t want to dig in a wire around every putting surface.

Why dew removal matters to courses

Dew sitting on putting surfaces for long periods can add to the conditions linked with fungal disease, and treating disease costs courses money in products and labor. The problem is timing. Dew is usually there before the morning shift starts, and removing it by hand (poling, brushing or dragging a hose) takes staff away from mowing and setup in the busiest hour of the day.

Andrew Lees, Global Segment Manager at Husqvarna, said greenkeeping teams had told the company the early-morning window is “one of the most pressured parts of the working day” and that dew removal “sits right at the centre of that.” He said the Automower 580L EPOS is already working on fairways and approaches at courses around the world, and the attachment means it can now help in that first hour on the greens as well.

Husqvarna expects the benefit to be biggest for courses with a lot of greens to get through, for tournament preparation, and for courses where shift patterns mean nobody is on site when the dew forms.

Research on dollar spot

Husqvarna is also taking part in a research project on alternative ways to manage dollar spot, one of the most costly turf diseases on golf courses. The study is led by the International Turfgrass Research Initiative (ITRI), funded by the USGA, The R&A and STERF, and will use the dew removal attachment in trials in Sweden, Denmark, the United States and Germany. The research is ongoing, and Husqvarna has been clear that the findings will be reported separately and that the study isn’t an endorsement of the product by ITRI, the USGA, The R&A or STERF. So for now there’s no published data on how much the attachment reduces disease.

What this means if you’re buying

If your course already runs Automower 580L EPOS units on fairways, this could add a second job for machines you own, so it’s worth asking your Husqvarna dealer about pricing and timing for early 2027. If you’re comparing robotic mowers for the first time, it’s another reason to look at what else a platform can do beyond cutting grass, and how work areas and transport paths are set up and changed. Pricing hasn’t been published yet.
