If you run a golf course in Ireland or elsewhere in Europe and need new holes built, greens and tees rebuilt to USGA specification, or drainage and irrigation put in, Atlantic Golf Construction (AGC) of Ballybunion, Co. Kerry, can take on the whole job with its own crews. You get golf course construction and redevelopment from a contractor whose published work includes Adare Manor, Ballybunion, Tralee and Lahinch, The San Roque Club in Spain and Castiglion del Bosco in Italy, with designers including Tom Fazio, Tom Watson and Pádraig Harrington.
Course work you can hire AGC for
Among the golf construction and renovation contractors, AGC covers complete course redesigns, green and tee reconstruction, bunker redevelopment including revetted links bunkers, and full drainage and irrigation systems. It also builds practice facilities such as driving ranges, short-game areas, coaching academies and junior courses. At Tralee Golf Club that meant two new holes, a six-hole par-3 course and a renovated range. Its in-house project managers, shapers, engineers, drainage and irrigation crews and turf specialists shape, drain and finish each job, so you deal with one firm, and a logistics base in Ballybunion sources, tests and delivers materials to site.
Adare Manor, Ballybunion and San Roque
At Adare Manor, starting in March 2016, AGC rebuilt the former Robert Trent Jones course and driving range to Tom Fazio’s new layout. Its project page lists SubAir systems under every green, 40 capillary concrete bunkers, about 75,000 linear meters of drainage at 5 m centers, 73 ha of sand capping on the course and 8 ha on the range, and fiber optic ducting, with the work finished within budget and two months ahead of schedule, the company says. On Ballybunion Old Course, from October 2015, it rebuilt all 18 greens with turf grown in a 2 ha on-site nursery, redesigned the 7th green, revetted greenside bunkers and upgraded irrigation, and play resumed at the end of March 2016. The San Roque Club, its first major job abroad, was a full redesign with Manuel Piñero carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding drainage against mountain runoff, a golf academy and a driving range.
The Bennett family and Ballybunion links
Brothers Anthony and Donald Bennett founded AGC in 2014. Both caddied at Ballybunion as boys and are still members there, and their father’s plant hire business has worked on the Old Course since the late 1970s. Beyond golf, the firm now builds GAA fields, athletics tracks, show jumping and horse racing facilities and civil works, and its homepage shows an EIGCA bronze partner badge.
